In other words, its fairly small scale.Ī different approach would be to use GURPS, which is modular and so you can grab that rules and systems that you need to get the game you want. However, it tends to be more of the type where the politics is between people all in the same court. Pendragon is an rpg in which every player is a knight (like in the King Arthur legends) and there is some politics / management stuff in there. Pathfinder (1st edition) has an adventure path called Kingmaker that is like a 5e adventure book: it has a plot-line for the GM as well ass additional rules for both the GM and the players, all of which support a pathfinder story in which the players are in charge.īirthright (which is an extra rule-book & setting for D&D 2e) is also about the players being in charge politically. This sounds like the Realm-management page of the subreddit wiki might be a good place to start.Ī few highlights from some of the games I know more-than-nothing about, but none of them I know particularly well: Or hey they might choose to remain neutral and/or take over the world, either way works. They could choose who to ally with, be directly involved in peace talks, etc. What's your take on this? I feel like it would allow the party to be more involved in the settings politics, wars between factions, etc. Granted anything past that is up to dm discretion as to if they're incorporating it, such as leading armies or governing territories. See if another player has the noble background trait, ask if they'd be ok with you being a contracted mage to them or something and see if the dm approves it. Now as for incorporating stuff like this as a player, thats just character creation.

Outside of combat, the peace treaties and court like sequences, thats all rp stuff. And of course other systems probably also have rules for it. I think Pathfinder and D&D 3.5 and earlier do have rules for that though. There's no reason it can't work in D&D 5e, but 5e doesn't have any rules for mass combat, giving orders to troops, etc. Granted, some of this gets a little shaky, having players who might be contracted mages or advisors to another player gets into pcs working for another pc, and that can go well or horribly depending on how the players involved handle it.Īnother issue is what system would work best. Also having court mages, advisors, and all sorts of stuff like that. The main things are having players be lords, holding noble titles and the stuff that comes with that (having land, subjects, armies, etc). I had a lot of rpg inspiration while watching this series, Record of Grancrest War, stuff I want to try incorporating in fantasy games I'm in. /r/boardgames - Boardgames that isn't TTRPGs.Hide "Table Troubles-threads Related Subreddits
